Laparoscopic surgery and enhanced recovery programmes have revolutionised the way surgery is being done worldwide. Laparoscopic surgery leads to less pain, shorter hospital stay and faster return to normal functioning. Dr Crots is trained in advanced laparoscopic surgery which include colo-rectal surgery, splenectomy, inguinal and incisional hernias, laparoscopic stomach and oesophageal surgery.
An ERCP service, both diagnostic and interventional, is provided. Bile duct stones are removed, obstucted ducts drained and malignant strictures stented. Complex surgical procedures, such as liver and pancreas resections are undertaken.
In the lower gastrointestinal tract I have extensive experience in the management of complex colo-rectal carcinoma, inflammatory bowel disease, complex proctology and fistula surgery, faecal incontinence. There is extensive experience with GI complications resulting from gynaecological disease, including cancer, infertility and endometriosis. Advanced surgical techniques have resulted in new combined approaches, involving radiotherapy, to the surgical treatment of low rectal carcinomas. In the upper GI tract, I have extensive experience with oesophago-gastric carcinoma, oesophageal reflux , achalasia, complex peptic ulcer disease, gastro-intestinal bleeding. Gastrointestinal surgery has advanced rapidly in the last few years and advances in rapid recovery systems has led to shorter hospital stay and faster recovery.
Gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP and a full range of therapeutic endoscopic procedures are performed. Patients with advanced obstructing carcinomas of the oesophagus and colon are treated with stenting.
Apart from the specialised gastro-intestinal service, general surgery are also done with experience in thyroid, breast and hernia surgery being of special interest.
